VOâ‚‚ Max & Ventilatory Threshold Testing

Stop guessing where your training zones are. Measure how your body actually responds to increasing exercise intensity.
VOâ‚‚ max testing at Adams Peak Performance goes beyond a single fitness score. We use respiratory data collected during a progressive exercise test to understand your aerobic capacity, identify key physiological thresholds, and translate the results into practical training guidance for running, cycling, and endurance performance.

What Is VOâ‚‚ Max?

VOâ‚‚ max represents the greatest amount of oxygen your body can take in, transport, and use during intense exercise. It is one important measure of aerobic capacity, but the number alone does not tell the full story. Two athletes with similar VOâ‚‚ max values can have very different endurance abilities depending on where their thresholds occur, how efficiently they use oxygen, and how much of their aerobic capacity they can sustain.

What APP Evaluates

VOâ‚‚ max and peak aerobic response.

VT1—the first ventilatory threshold, which helps identify the transition from easier aerobic work toward more moderate intensity.

VT2—the second ventilatory threshold, which helps identify the upper sustainable boundary before exercise becomes progressively more difficult to maintain.

Heart-rate and intensity responses throughout the test.

Individualized training-zone recommendations based on measured physiology rather than generic percentages.

Aerobic efficiency and how your physiological response changes as workload increases.

Training implications: where to place easy work, endurance work, threshold training, and higher-intensity sessions.

Why It Matters

Generic age-based heart-rate formulas and estimated zones can place athletes at the wrong intensity. A measured assessment gives us a clearer physiological map. APP uses that map to help you train with greater purpose—keeping easy days appropriately easy, targeting quality sessions more precisely, and tracking whether your training is producing the adaptations we want.

Testing & Reassessment

Testing is performed in person in Arizona using a progressive exercise protocol appropriate for the athlete and sport. Reassessment can be used later in the training cycle to determine whether aerobic capacity, thresholds, efficiency, and usable performance have changed.

What You Receive
