Metabolic / FatMax Testing
Â
Understand what fuels your endurance—and identify the intensity where fat utilization is greatest.
Long-duration performance depends on more than fitness. It also depends on how your body produces energy at different intensities. Adams Peak Performance metabolic and FatMax testing evaluates respiratory data across increasing workloads to estimate how fuel use changes from lower to higher intensities and to identify the intensity associated with maximal fat oxidation.
Â
What Is FatMax?
Â
FatMax is the exercise intensity at which estimated fat oxidation is highest during the testing protocol. It is not a magic pace or a single intensity that every workout should target. Instead, it gives us useful information about your metabolic profile and how your body shifts between greater reliance on fat and carbohydrate as intensity increases.
Â
What APP Evaluates
Estimated fat and carbohydrate utilization across exercise intensities.
The intensity associated with maximal estimated fat oxidation (FatMax).
Heart rate, pace or power, and respiratory response associated with key metabolic changes.
How quickly carbohydrate dependence increases as intensity rises.
Practical implications for endurance training, long-course racing, and ultra-distance performance.
How metabolic information can complement fueling and hydration planning.
Â
Why It Matters for Endurance Athletes
Â
For long events, the ability to produce useful work aerobically while managing carbohydrate demand can influence durability and fueling requirements. Metabolic testing can help APP better understand what is happening beneath your pace, power, and heart rate—and use that information to make endurance training more individualized.
Â
Training and Fueling Application
Â
APP translates the results into athlete-friendly recommendations. The goal is not to avoid carbohydrate or chase fat burning at all costs. The goal is to understand your metabolic response so training and fueling strategies can better match the demands of your sport and target event.
Â
What You Receive
