Lactate Threshold & Lactate Profile Testing
Â
See how your body responds as intensity rises—and use that information to build more precise training.
Lactate testing provides a powerful look at the relationship between exercise intensity and metabolic demand. At Adams Peak Performance, we use staged testing and blood lactate measurements to build an athlete-specific lactate profile, identify meaningful transition points, and convert the results into actionable training guidance.
Â
What Is Lactate Testing?
Â
During exercise, blood lactate changes as energy demand increases. Rather than treating lactate as simply a 'waste product,' APP evaluates how the concentration changes across workloads. The shape of the lactate curve can help us understand aerobic development, sustainable intensity, threshold behavior, and how an athlete responds to progressively harder work.
Â
What APP Evaluates
Blood lactate response across progressively increasing stages.
Workload, pace or power, and heart rate associated with each stage.
Identification of useful lactate transition points and threshold behavior.
Individualized training zones and intensity targets informed by the athlete's measured response.
Changes in the lactate curve when testing is repeated after a training block.
How the results should influence endurance, tempo, threshold, and higher-intensity training.
Â
Why It Matters
Â
A single threshold estimate from a watch or generic calculator may not reflect how your physiology actually behaves. A lactate profile gives APP another objective way to understand the athlete. For endurance athletes, improvements may show up not only as a higher threshold, but also as lower lactate at a given pace or power, a rightward shift of the curve, or the ability to produce more work at a similar metabolic cost.
Â
Use It to Track Adaptation
Â
Repeat testing can help answer a critical coaching question: is the training working? Comparing profiles over time can reveal changes in aerobic efficiency, threshold intensity, and tolerance of higher workloads.
Â
What You Receive
A staged lactate profile with pace or power, heart rate, and lactate values.
Identification and explanation of relevant lactate thresholds or transition points.
Training-zone and workout-intensity recommendations.
Interpretation of strengths, limitations, and current physiological profile.
Recommendations for how to apply the findings in TrainingPeaks or your current training plan.
A repeatable baseline for future comparison.
Â
Who This Is For
Â
Endurance athletes who want more precise zones, athletes preparing for a key event, athletes whose watch-generated thresholds do not match perceived effort, and athletes or coaches who want objective evidence of adaptation.
